Exclusive number plates from AA to Z codes draw massive bids at auction
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) hosted its 118th open auction for exclusive vehicle number plates on Saturday evening at the Grand Hyatt Dubai.
Setting a historic milestone, the auction generated about Dh100 million in proceeds, marking the highest tally in the history of RTA’s number plate auctions.
A total of 90 premium plates, featuring two, three, four, and five-digit configurations, were offered to eager bidders.
Top-selling plates
Leading the evening’s sales, the plate (CC 22) fetched Dh8.35 million, claiming the highest bid of the night. Close behind, (BB 20) secured Dh7.52 million, while (BB 19) achieved Dh6.68 million. Other notable sales included (AA 707) at Dh3.31 million and (AA 222) at Dh3.3 million. The event showcased a diverse selection of codes, including AA, BB, CC, I, J, O, P, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z.
Bidding process
Prospective bidders registered via the RTA’s website, mobile application, or by visiting Customer Happiness Centres located in Umm Ramool, Deira, and Al Barsha. Participants were required to hold a Dubai traffic file and submit a security deposit cheque of Dh25,000 made payable to RTA, along with a non-refundable registration fee of Dh120. A 5 percent VAT applied to all successful transactions.
Record-breaking success
Despite the nominal value of the plates being Dh16.565 million, the final sales figure surged to Dh98.83 million. The open auction’s transparent and fair bidding model continues to attract a wide array of enthusiasts, allowing buyers to secure plates of personal or symbolic importance through both live and online formats.
